Program Note:

“Tainan 400” is composed for French horn, violin, cello and piano. It was written for the National University of Tainan Faculty Joint Recital and completed in February 2024. This year (2024) marks the 400th anniversary of the founding of Tainan city. There have been many related activities to celebrate Tainan as the earliest civilized city in Taiwan. Today, Tainan still plays a leading role in culture, art, monuments, and food. Before moving to Tainan, I had many good impressions of this place. However, only by living here could we appreciate Tainan’s eclectic, vibrant, prosperous, mysterious, and timeless existence.

“Tainan 400” spans about 10 minutes and briefly describes the endless stories of Tainan. Sometimes, the music is solemn and noble, and occasionally, it is playful and lively, while it is nostalgic and romantic from time to time. Even though the music is fleeting, the emotions it delivers are immense, so the notes can carry the aftertaste and admiration of this city’s past and bring out beautiful imagination for its future.
